Hybrid-cycle
A third type of system is a hybrid between open and closed cycles. For this system, warm water from the surface enters through a vacuum chamber which reduces the pressure and flash-evaporates the water, creating steam. This steam vaporizes a working fluid, such as ammonia from a closed-cycle loop on the other side of a vaporizer. The fluid, which has now been vaporized, turns a turbine which generates electricity. The heat exchanger then condenses the steam which results in desalinated water (Ocean. 123 eng).
